Alleluia! He is Risen!

2022-4-5 | Meghan McClellan

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16

We sing the song “God So Loved” often on Sunday mornings, proclaiming the scripture above that God’s love gave us the greatest gift to mankind: Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. In this season of Lent, we have been reflecting on Jesus’ suffering, his sacrifice, his life, death, and burial. This is why we have not sung the word “Alleluia” during worship since Lent began. We acknowledge our own sin and suffering in this time and practice repentance, knowing that one day soon we will again have the privilege of worshipping God as the angels do.

This is and has been my favorite liturgical practice in the church calendar year. It is a subtle practice that allows us to anticipate the glorious praise we’ll sing to celebrate the resurrection on Easter morning. When we retire something for a season, recovering it has a way of making it “new” for us. In my own personal experience with this practice, there really is that sense of “newness,” of power, and of joy when we sing that first “Alleluia” on Easter morning. I encourage you to engage in this practice with me as we join together to worship during holy week.

This year we have many opportunities for you to engage and participate in the crucifixion and resurrection story. My prayer is that you’ll attend one or both of the events leading up to Easter to prepare your heart for celebration on Sunday, and that you’ll join us for a joyous Easter morning!

Be sure to invite your family and friends to join us at all or any of these opportunities by using our invite cards available to you at the welcome counter.

Let’s reflect, ponder, and celebrate together this Easter!
