The month of February is Black History Month; an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Black History Month grew out of “Negro History Week,” the brainchild of noted historian Carter G. Woodson and other prominent African Americans. Since 1976, every U.S. president has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating Black history.
Here at ECC we are committed to broadening our awareness and recognition of the diverse nature of the Kingdom of God. We are committed to opening up conversations and community that allows for this celebration to continue outside of the month of February. In effort to broaden our awareness of the need for racial reconciliation, I am excited to invite you into a 10-week virtual book study with me, looking at Latasha Morrison’s book Be The Bridge: Pursuing God’s Heart for Racial Reconciliation.
We will be meeting on Zoom, Wednesday evenings at 7:00 pm from February 24 – April 28, 2021. Latasha Morrison is a leading advocate for racial reconciliation offering a clarion call for Christians to move toward relationship and deeper understanding in the midst of a divisive culture.
With racial tensions as high within the church as outside the church, it is time for Christians to become the leaders in the conversation on racial reconciliation.
This powerful book will help deepen our understanding of historical factors and present realities, equipping us to participate in the ongoing dialogue and to serve as a catalyst for righteousness, justice, healing, transformation, and reconciliation.
